Dermatology
Our office offers dermatologic care for all age groups.
We treat most skin ailments as well as monitor healthy skin. Full
body skin exams are performed by all of our doctors and our Physician
Assistant.
Our doctors are very thorough when they perform a
skin exam. They will look through your scalp, between your toes,
and everywhere in-between. These appointments take extra time; therefore
we schedule these at specific intervals. If you wish to have a skin
exam, make sure you tell the receptionist so she can schedule you
appropriately.
Our
regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through
Friday. In the event of an emergency, after office hours or on days
when the office is closed, you can reach the physician on-call by
calling our main number. The physician on-call's pager number will
be available on our answering service.
Cosmetic Procedures
Sculptra
Sculptra is a synthetic injectable material know as “poly-L-lactic acid.” Poly-L-lactic acid is biocompatible (a material that does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). Poly-L-lactic acid has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants, and other types of implants. Sculptra is injected below the surface of the skin. It provides a gradual increase in skin volume. Sculptra has been shown to last greater than two years.
Sculptra is currently FDA approved to treat lipoatrophy (the progressive facial fat loss seen frequently in HIV patients), but is used off-label for cosmetic purposes. We are currently using Sculptra to correct volume loss, wrinkles, and acne scaring that neither Botox nor Restylane will correct.
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is an acidic solution that is applied to your face.
The chemicals cause your skin to exfoliate, but this exfoliation
can sometimes be very noticeable peeling, or can occur more on the
cellular level. There are a lot of different chemical peels in the
market. The peels that we offer here are:
- Salicylic Acid
- Glycolic Acid
- Physicians Choice Peels
Your physician can determine which type of peel would be best for
you.
Benefits:
- Diminish fine lines
- Improve skin texture and tone
- Decrease discoloration
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion has some similarities to a chemical peel. The
purpose of a microderm is to exfoliate the skin, however the exfoliation
is physical rather than chemical. The physician has greater control
with microderm because she can concentrate on trouble areas and
change settings during each treatment.
Benefits:
Diminish fine lines
Improve skin texture and tone
Decrease discoloration
Botox
Botox is an actual injection that offers people a great way to smooth
out deep wrinkles without having surgery. Botox works best with
these areas:
Forehead wrinkles
Wrinkles in-between eyebrows
Crows feet
For more information about Botox ask for a brochure.
Restylane Restylane is gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to lips and lift up wrinkles and folds. Resytlane consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in the body. Once in the skin, Restylane works by crating volume. Some dermal fillers are derived from animal substances. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is non-animal.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
IPL is a non-invasive procedure that utilizes fluorescent pulsed
light to diminish the targeted areas. The treatment consists of
numerous
"zaps" of bright light over the affected areas
of your skin. It is fairly uncomfortable, but there is a numbing
cream available and the discomfort is only during the procedure.
Afterward, you will look slightly wind burned or like you have been
in the sun all day.
IPL is used for:
Decreasing facial redness
Diminishing broken capillaries
Clearing freckles and sunspots
Rebuilding collagen and elasticity
For more information about IPL ask for a brochure.
Laser Hair Reduction
After all, what good is having great skin if you have unsightly
embarrassing facial hair?
Laser hair reduction is the most permanent method of hair removal
available. This procedure can be performed anywhere on the body,
from the upper lip to the toes! It is fairly uncomfortable, but
there is a numbing cream available. After the procedure you may
have some mild discomfort. Wouldn't it be nice to never have to
shave your underarms!
